    1. SERENGETI

The Serengeti Plains are the richest grounds on the continent home to the largest herds and highest concentration of predators in Africa.
    The Great Serengeti Annual Migration
Tanzania's amazing natural phenomena, of Great annual migration of Serengeti herds of Wildebeest, Zebra, Eland and Gazelles to Maasai Mara national Park in Kenya,
This circular and repeated migration begins in the Ngorongoro area of the southern Serengeti of Tanzania, this natural phenomenon is determined by the availability of pastures.

During January to March, the calving season begins, a time of plenty pastures due to rains, and the ripened grass enough to feed more than 700,000 zebras, more than 1,200,000 wildebeest, and hundred thousands of elands, gazelles and other plains game.

The wildebeest will spend their February on the short grass plains of the south eastern part of the ecosystem-Serengeti, will be grazing, and awkwardly of this phenomena, more than 500,000 calves will be born within a period of two to three weeks, Why this? Who knows?
If any of few calves will be born after the period of three weeks, they are likely not to survive, as when the migration starts, they are more noticeable by predatory lions and crocodiles in Grumeti River, when crossing North West to Maasai Mara.

After February, of birth giving, and after May when the rains end, the herds of animals will start moving North west, passing into the areas around Grumeti river where they remain until late June before crossing Grumeti river of high concentration of predatory crocodiles,
July is when the main migration of Wildebeest, Zebras, Elands and other plain games matures, and will arrive in the Kenyan border late July to August.

    In early November,
When the short rains starts, the migration starts moving south again, to the short grass plains,
usually arriving in Serengeti in December, ready for calving in February.

    Because of this annual migration,
More than 250,000 wildebeest lose lives on way from Serengeti to Maasai Mara, and death results from a prolonged hunger, exhaustion due to many kilometres walk, thirst and predation.

    Its quit unrevealed why,
The herds will move and cross Grumeti River, a crocodile concentration that reduces their number?
Will wonder the whole Ecosystem, using the common route, with lion concentration that affects their lives?
Why does the migration head north? Why within a period of three weeks, more than five hundred calves are born?

This is Serengeti, this is Tanzania, this is a natural phenomenon, and we have nothing to do with it.
It’s very interesting seeing how the herds will be speedy; crossing a crocodile concentration Grumeti river, don't forget the calving season of February too.
Serengeti Great Annual Migration won the top honour in African Seven natural wonders in 2013.
